Patrik Pollak leads after four races at the Raceboard World Championship in Balatonföldvár

"We couldn't have wished for a better opening day: we've had four great races. The results are a bit deceiving, because anyone in the top ten is capable of winning a race, so it was not easy at all," said Pollak at the end of the day. “The lake didn't make our task any easier, we've known for a long time how tricky Lake Balaton is, and we had to watch out for the wind shifts and changes. But overall, we had a beautiful day, never have a worse start."

Louis Morris of Great Britain stand in second place - he won the remaining fourth race, but he is at the same points as Fabian Grundmann of Germany in third position.

"We had a very tight and great battle, with a medium to strong wind, which suited me," said Morris. “This is the first time I've won a race at an international race, so I'm very happy about it. It's a good lake, the wind made the race exciting. I have to try not to make any mistakes later on."

The German Gundmann was of the same opinion, he showed a very balanced performance (two second places, a third and a fifth one), and he completed his best ever day at an international competition.

Bence Sánta, the best Hungarian surfer currently is in seventh position, but he is confident that he can do even better, as he is aiming to finish on the podium at the end of the race. "I messed up the third race: I had a bad start and I made a wrong the side selection, so I struggled a lot," said Sánta. “It was a tough day, partly, because it has been a long time since I was on this kind of equipment, and also because last week I was competing in the European Foil Championships, and I didn't have time to have some rest. But I'm not trying to make excuses, we have to keep on, because this is our home race, and even in great weather conditions."

In the U23 Ondrej Szitás of Slovakia is leading, while former European champion, Bálint Morvai is standing in third place after a hair-raising adventure.

"I’m not gonna sugarcoat it, it was a scary moment” Morvai said. “I got very tired in the second race, I let the sail go after the finish, but someone came very fast from behind, I was lucky that the skeg on cut my back, and not my head, because I could continue racing with a bloody arm. The third race was like that, but in the fourth I was back in control again. Obviously, it helped a lot that the doctor had a look at my wound. I'll get myself together for tomorrow, because my goal is to win the U23."

Former world and European champion Jana Slívová of the Czech Republic, the leader of the women's race, could keep up with the men, too: she is 14th after four races. "It was a very good day, the medium-strong wind suited me, I could fight with the men at the front," said Slívová. “I have collected valuable points and I hope I can continue this way on the upcoming days."

Luca Gádorfalvi, former Olympian is third in the women's classification. "The weather is amazing and the organisation is great, it's an honour to be here," she said, "I need some more time to warm up, for me, as a working mother, it's still very early in the season, but I really enjoy racing because we can see great and fair battles on the water."

The race will resume on Wednesday with another three or four races.
